Harp tuition and harp therapy online and in person in York, UK.
Have you always wanted to play the harp? Many of my students say this has been a heartfelt desire since they first heard the unique sound of harp music. Or perhaps you are a parent of a child who has shown an aptitude and interest in music. The harp is the perfect beginner’s instrument because it sounds beautiful right from the first lesson. I provide a guided learning experience where the student is the key music maker, producing amazing and delightful sounds in no time at all.
In the early days you will learn creative improvisation, how to use harp music for your own well being, how to read notes so you can play well known harp pieces and many more besides. Moving on there is a huge variety of music arranged for the harp these days spanning all genres, from pop and jazz, to classical and folk.
It is easy to start lessons in York in person and online using zoom. The fee for lessons is £20/half hour. There is the option of hiring a Derwent Adventurer 20 string lap harp direct from myself for just £15/month.
In terms of progression I have experience and offer quality tuition in pedal and lever harp graded exams right through to degree level tuition. Over the years I have worked as the visiting harp tutor at York St John University, Bootham School, Huntington School, Manor CE Academy and York Steiner School. I enter students for grade exams with ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and LCME as appropriate. I am very supportive and encouraging when it comes to finding local performance opportunities such as Yorchestra, York Minster Minstrels, school concerts and various competitive music festivals.
I have a special interest in therapeutic harp music and its applications in the therapeutic environment. I have a 2 hour bundle of Royalty Free tracks available for therapy, complementary therapists and hypnobirthing professionals. As well as an original album “Blissful baby moon” to help your baby sleep, which can be used as a sleep and relaxation aid for all ages. This is also now available with a Royalty Free License for professional use.
Harp therapy
A harp therapy session combines live therapeutic music on the harp, with guided relaxations and visualisations and counselling. The harp touches people on all levels: body, mind and spirit and clients can come to experience the harp emotionally, physiologically and mystically. Harp therapy can take place online or in person and is £40/hr long session.
